Doctor accused of sexually assaulting teen at his clinic, arrested

Vasco: A doctor from Chicalim has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a 14-year-old boy at his clinic for two months by calling him multiple times and inappropriately touching him under the pretext of treating his rashes. 

According to a complaint from the boy's mother, the doctor inappropriately touched her son after requesting that he remove his clothing. Furthermore, she alleged that the doctor instructed her son not to disclose the matter to anyone.

Based on the medical examination report of the teenager which confirmed sexual assault, the police arrested the doctor after registering a case under sections 4, 8 and 12 of the POCSO Act and sections 8 (2) and 8 (9) of the Children’s Act. The accused was produced before the JMFC Vasco and remanded to five days of police custody.

As per a latest report by Herald Goa, the incident took place between November and December when the boy went to the 39-year-old doctor who runs a naturopathy clinic at Chicalim with complaints of rashes on his thighs. However, it is alleged that instead of treating the boy, the doctor sexually assaulted him. 

The matter came to light when the boy developed stubborn itching. His mother suggested that he return to the doctor for treatment. However, during this period, he declined to visit the doctor and shared with his mother the distressing events he had been facing.

With the help of an NGO, the mother approached the police on March 14. Following this, police took the necessary action against the doctor. An investigation in this regard is underway.  

Explaining the incident in detail, a police officer told Herald Goa, "The doctor asked the boy to undress and touched him inappropriately. He then called the victim to do a follow-up treatment on four other occasions and then allegedly sexually assaulted the teenager and asked him to maintain secrecy over their relationship."
