The incident took a dramatic twist when the same scammer contacted the doctor again — but this time, to reveal that the entire situation was a fraud. He confessed that he and a group of accomplices had orchestrated the scam. However, the man claimed he had only received ₹2,000 as his share from the loot, far less than promised. Feeling cheated by his own gang, the fraudster urged the doctor to immediately lodge a police complaint. “Register a complaint with the police soon, otherwise you won’t get your money back,” the caller allegedly told the doctor.
Following this, the doctor approached the Mandi City Police and formally filed a cyber fraud complaint.
Speaking about this case, Mandi SP Saji Verma said that the victim doctor has lodged a complaint in the cyber fraud case. Police have registered a case on the complaint of the doctor, and the investigation is on, ETV Bharat reports.
Medical Dialogues had previously reported that in a recent case of cyber fraud, a Hyderabad-based woman doctor was scammed out of Rs. 1.40 lakh by a fraudster posing as an army official. The scam unfolded when the scammer pretended to arrange for a group of women cadets to undergo medical examinations at her clinic.
