Dr Vatsala Aggarwal takes charge as new Director General DGHS Delhi

New Delhi: Through a recent notice, the Department of Health and Family Welfare has announced the appointment of Dr Vatsala Aggarwal as the new Director General of Health Services (DGHS) Delhi with immediate effect. 

An order approved by the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi on August 19 in this regard mentioned that Dr. Aggarwal has been relieved from her existing responsibilities with direction to take charge of her new role without waiting for formal relieving orders from her previous postings.

Before this appointment, Dr. Aggarwal served as the Chief Medical Officer (SAG) at Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital.

A senior bureaucrat in Delhi’s health administration, she had earlier worked as director and medical superintendent in government hospitals. She has served as Director of Janakpuri Super Speciality Hospital and was additionally given charge as Director of the Delhi State Cancer Institute, reports TNIE

Her appointment comes after the post was temporarily overseen by Dr. Rajesh Kumar following the voluntary retirement of Dr. Rati Makkar on August 9. Before Dr. Rati Makkar, Dr. Vandana Bagga served as DGHS but was suspended by the government in January. The post then remained vacant for nearly two months until Dr. Makkar was appointed in April, as per the ETV Bharat report. 

"The officers shall not be eligible for any additional remuneration in respect of abovesaid charge. The above Doctors/officers are hereby Stand relieved from their present place of posting with the direction to report to their new place of posting for their duties without waiting any formal relieving orders from their present department. Further, the handing over and taking over of charge to be done immediately," the order reads.
