The doctor sustained a serious head injury and suffered significant physical and mental trauma due to the alleged assault.
According to a written complaint submitted by the doctor, the incident took place on January 17, 2026, at around 10 am. The doctor stated that while he was attending to admitted children in the paediatric ward, he noticed that a patient and the patient’s medical file were missing from the ward. He was later informed that the patient had been taken to the sampling room for routine investigations.

The doctor said that after some time, the patient was brought back to the ward by the attendant, along with another attendant and the patient’s wife. Soon after their arrival, the doctor alleged that the attendant started arguing regarding the earlier incident.
The complaint alleged that three individuals - a man, the patient’s parents and another person began verbally abusing the doctor and falsely accused him of not providing treatment, despite the patient being under continuous medical care for the last three days.
When the doctor asked them to leave the ward, security guards arrived at the spot. However, when the doctor approached them to question their abusive behaviour, the situation allegedly turned violent. The accused persons allegedly surrounded and physically restrained the doctor.
The doctor claimed that the patient’s parents attempted to strangulate him using his stethoscope, pressing it against his neck. At the same time, another attendant reportedly pulled the doctor’s hair from behind and assaulted him.
The doctor stated that he sustained a head injury and suffered significant physical and mental trauma due to the attack.
In his complaint, the doctor said the incident amounts to criminal intimidation, verbal abuse, physical assault on a public servant on duty, attempt to cause grievous harm, obstruction of official medical duties, and violence within hospital premises.
Condemning the incident, the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) demanded strict action against the culprits and justice for the assaulted doctor.
In a post on 'X', the association said, "A postgraduate student at ESI Basai Darapur Hospital, Delhi, was physically assaulted by relatives of a patient. Every other day, violence against doctors is increasing & the government is still not thinking of any bill for the protection of CovidWarriors. We demand strict action."
Similarly, the Democratic Medical Association (DMA) also condemned the incident. In a post on X, the association said, "Another doctor assaulted. Another red line crossed. Hospitals are meant for healing, not violence. We demand immediate action and accountability. Stand with doctors. Raise your voice. Show your outrage."
Reacting to the incident, Dr Mohammad Momin Khan, Vice President of the All India Medical Students’ Association (AIMSA), J&K, said, "Horrible. If doctors are not safe inside hospitals, where are they? We Demand Urgent Intervention."
