Under the Family Doctor scheme, mobile healthcare facilities are to be deployed to ensure timely medical care reaches every household. The programme was introduced in the Kakinada district on a pilot basis in October last year. Around 1.35 lakh people have received treatment under this scheme.

The collector said that the 104 ambulance vehicles assigned for the programme would be carrying around 75 types of medicines and could carry out tests for 14 types of diseases. Nearly 30 testing machines have been made available for the same, reports the Deccan Chronicle.

Further, she added that they have completed the training of the healthcare personnel who are required to go to these villages and requested the villagers to avail the services. Kakinada Rural MLA Kurasala Kannababu stated that the system would allow people in rural areas to access better healthcare facilities.

Meanwhile, the Eluru collector Prasanna Venkatesh said they have made available 44 mobile medical units linked with VYSR Village clinics, 16 varieties of medical tests and 67 kinds of medicines in the village health clinics.

According to East Godavari collector K. Madhavi Latha, two public health centres have been established in every Mandal under the new programme. She added that around 5000 patients are getting treatment per week from October 2022. Further, she noted that a proposal regarding the setting up of a community health centre in each assembly constituency and an area hospital in each revenue division is pending before the government.
