Former AIIMS dean, Dr VK Bahl joins Max Healthcare as Principal Director, Cardiac Sciences

New Delhi: Renowned Cardiologist and the former dean of AIIMS, New Delhi, Professor (Dr) VK Bahl, has recently joined Max Healthcare, New Delhi as the Principal Director of Cardiac Sciences. He recently superannuated from AIIMS, New Delhi with his tenure ending on 31st July, 2020.

In his new position, Dr Bahl will be associated with three Max Hospitals in the capital, that is Max Hospital, Vaishali, Max Hospital Patparganj as well as Max Hospital Saket. 

Prof Bahl previously served as the Head of Cardiology and Center Chief of Cardio-thoracic Center at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. He was appointed as the Dean (Academics) of AIIMS in June 2018. Dr. VK Bahl is a pioneer in Cardiology with many firsts to his credit. He has undertaken many complex cardiac interventions for the first time in India- retrograde BMV, multi-valvular interventions, leadless pacemaker to name a few. 

Born in 1955, Prof VK Bahl graduated from MLN Medical College, University of Allahabad, and completed his DM training from, G. B. Pant Hospital, Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi. He joined AIIMS as faculty and went on to become one of the most erudite, distinguished and respected professors of this institute. He is a completely balanced clinical cardiologist and researcher but interventional cardiology remains his first love. He is one of the Course Directors of India Live- – National Course on Percutaneous Cardiovascular Interventions. He was a Commonwealth Scholar in 1989/90, Senior Research Associate for Electrophysiology at University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, USA in the year 1994 and WHO Short-Term Consultant for teaching and training of Cardiologists at North Korea in 1998
Dr Bahl's contributions to the cardiology community are immense. He is past Editor of Indian Heart Journal, advisor to Journal of American College of Cardiology (2015-16), and currently serves as its Emeritus Editor. He has served as Hony. Secretary of CSI Delhi Branch, Past President of National CSI and Advisor, Academic Committee of CSI. He was nominated Member, National Academy of Medical Science, and Advisory Board of Asian Pacific Heart Association. Dr Bahl sits on several National Regulatory Bodies and is National Co-ordinator and Principal Investigator of several drugs and device-based multinational trials. He has an immense contribution to the establishment of Heart House in Delhi.
He has numerous awards to his credit including "AmrutModyUnichem Prize" by Indian Council of Medical Research, 'Searl Award" and "DP Basu Award" by Cardiological Society of India, Couer de' Or Award for philanthropic work in cardiology (2008), Life Time Achievement Award for contribution in preventive cardiology by WCCPGC, New Delhi, National Best Medical Award by Netrik Manav SamajUthan Sewa Samiti ( 2011), Best Cardiologist Award by Zee TV(2015), and "Legends of Cardiology" Award by Times Group (2017) and "Lifetime Achievement Award " by CSI (Delhi) to just name a very few.
After his successful completion of duties as the Dean of AIIMS, Delhi, now he will be starting his new professional venture as the Principal Director of Cardiac Sciences of Max Healthcare, New Delhi.
