The GMCH hospital authorities caught the impersonator and handed him over to police officials, reports the Pratidin Times. The fake identification documents listed him as an assistant professor at the institute who worked in the neurosurgery department.

He was caught red-handed while treating some patients at a ward in the hospital. According to the hospital authorities, the fake ID card stated that it was issued in 2015 and it stated that he worked in the neurosurgery department. They stated that the official signature on the ID card did not belong to any top issuing officials of GMCH. The card did not have an official signature as well, reported the officials.

The incident reportedly came to light when the relative of a patient approached to smell alcohol on him,m which gave way to suspicions. He then placed a complaint with the authorities.

The attendant at the hospital who had to send him to authorities said, "He showed me his identity card but since I didn't know how to verify it, I did not. He reeked of alcohol and when I asked the nurse about him, she couldn't recognize him either. I felt suspicious when he tried to leave and I immediately locked him inside the room and called the security guards. They took him to the Incharge of the Emergency Room. She could not verify the identity card, and took him to the superintendent of GMCH."

The principal examined the card and identified it as fake, following which the police took him for questioning. A police official told GPlus, "The man is a native of Gauripur, and stays in a rented house in Guwahati. According to him, he is associated with some medical company. We called his family members, they will arrive soon. The interrogation is going on. The GMCH authorities will soon lodge an FIR against the person." According to authorities, the man had worked at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) previously.
