Out of the three rounds of bullets fired at him, one struck Dr. Tapeshwar Prasad on the left side of his face, injuring his cheek and jaw. Covered in blood and immense pain, the doctor was immediately rushed to Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College and Hospital, where he is currently in stable condition.
Although the exact reason behind the attack is unknown, the police suspect it may be linked to a long-running property dispute with his son.
The incident occurred around 8:30 am when Dr. Prasad was returning home from his daily morning walk in his garden. Eyewitnesses said three men on a white Apache bike approached him from behind and fired at him.
According to initial reports, Dr Prasad sustained a gunshot wound to his jaw and was initially taken to the local sub-divisional hospital before being referred to Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College in Gaya for further treatment. Doctors there confirmed that his condition is critical but stable, and he is now out of danger.
According to statements from local residents who witnessed the incident, the three attackers were seen holding pistols—two had their faces covered with gamchhas, while the third was wearing a helmet.
Showing courage, a brave local youth threw a brick at the assailants, hitting one of them in the head and causing his pistol to fall. The miscreants then fled towards Ghaghar Hunterganj Road. Police have recovered a pistol, a live cartridge, and an empty shell from the spot.
Dr. Prasad's daughter confirmed with Jagran that her father had gone out for a walk when he was shot. She said he has had ongoing disputes with his son, who is also a doctor, over property matters. In December 2024, a bomb was thrown at his private hospital in Gola Bazar Road, causing minor damage.
Rajesh Gupta, a close associate of Dr. Prasad, claimed that the doctor had received threats earlier this year and had even named the suspects to the police. However, no action was taken.
Following the recent firing, the police have registered a case, and an investigation is underway.
