Ghaziabad CMO takes action against absentee doctors, hospital staff

Ghaziabad: Over twenty health officials and management staff at Sanjay Nagar Hospital were issued a warning and a one-day salary cut for taking unauthorized leave following a surprise inspection by the Ghaziabad chief medical officer on 12th and 14th August.   

The officer directed the officials to deduct the one-day salary of the absent staff. CMO Bhavtosh Shankdhar led a team and conducted surprise inspections at the hospital.

During the inspection, the officer found that around 20 health officials and staff took leave without any prior notice, and he issued a warning against them. 

The absent staff include pharmacist, security guard, staff nurse, ward boy, counsellor, dental surgeon, emergency medical officer, radiologist and medical officers. 

Speaking to the Times of India, the officer said, "I found 20 health officials and staff absent without any prior approval. So, the day’s salary has been deducted for them. A warning has also been issued to the staff to report for work on time. If patients in need have to return from the hospital without treatment, it is unacceptable." 

He directed officials to begin token facilities at the OPD and distribute medicines for the benefit of patients. He said that proper seating arrangements should be made at the facility and directed the officials to ensure the availability of drinking water facilities for the patients and their relatives. 

The CMO alerted the director of UP national health mission in Lucknow, the Ghaziabad district magistrate and other senior officials of the health directorate regarding the issues at the centres.  

Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that taking action against absentee professors across the state, the Andhra Pradesh health department issued show-cause notices to 76 assistant professors and two associate professors working at government medical colleges for being on unauthorised leave for more than a year.
