Bettiah: In a shocking incident at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Bettiah, West Champaran, some intern doctors and family members of a 56-year-old patient were involved in a reported altercation. The matter escalated when the patient's son allegedly slapped an intern doctor, accusing him of negligence in treatment.

A video of the incident went viral on social media, showing a physical altercation. According to a TOI report, the individuals seen punching were reportedly doctors, while those being beaten were patient attendants. The dispute reportedly began over the removal of an oxygen mask.

The incident took place on Wednesday night when the family members of the patient accused an intern doctor of medical negligence after he removed the woman’s oxygen mask, checked her pulse, and declared her dead. In response, the deceased's son, in rage, slapped the intern.

Hospital superintendent Dr Sudha Bharati told TOI, "The patient was brought dead. The intern doctor only removed the woman’s oxygen mask, checked her pulse, and declared her dead. A man accompanying the patient slapped the doctor, alleging that removing the mask caused her death. The argument then escalated into a physical altercation. The video is being circulated in a negative manner."

Meanwhile, the woman’s husband, Gyanprakash, said, "I was returning home with my son after my wife received treatment in Patna. While travelling from Motihari to Bettiah, her condition suddenly deteriorated. We took her to the district hospital in Bettiah. During the examination, a doctor removed her oxygen mask and started talking to other doctors. By then, my wife died. When my son asked why the mask was removed, the doctors started beating us. Other people present there rescued us from the assault."

He demanded that the entire matter be investigated and action taken against the doctors responsible.
