Govt doctor among 4 killed, 3 critical in Barabanki SUV-truck collision

Lucknow: In a tragic incident, a government doctor was among four people killed, and three others sustained critical injuries after a speeding SUV allegedly rammed into the rear of a trailer truck on the Lucknow-Sultanpur Highway in Uttar Pradesh’s Barabanki district early Tuesday morning.
According to reports, the victims were travelling to Kainchi Dham on a pilgrimage when the tragic accident occurred near Bhikhra village under the Haidergarh police station area around 5 a.m.

Police officials stated that the Innova was heading towards Lucknow from eastern Uttar Pradesh when it rammed into the trailer with tremendous force. Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel, resulting in the fatal collision.
The impact of the crash was so severe that the front portion of the SUV was completely mangled, trapping several occupants inside the vehicle. Local residents rushed to the spot after hearing cries for help and alerted the police.
Teams from the Haidergarh police station and highway patrol units immediately launched rescue operations. Locals and police personnel jointly worked to pull the injured passengers out of the badly damaged car.
The injured and unconscious occupants were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital by ambulance.
Doctors declared four persons dead on arrival, while three others, who sustained severe injuries, were referred to the Trauma Centre at King George’s Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow for advanced treatment. Their condition is stated to be critical, reports TOI.
The deceased were identified as a 36-year-old doctor from Chandauli who was posted in Mughalsarai, a 35-year-old resident of Ghazipur, a 38-year-old resident of Ballia, and a 31-year-old resident of Sultanpur.
The injured were identified as a 34-year-old resident of Mirzapur, a 35-year-old, and another resident of Ballia.
Speaking to TOI, police said all three suffered serious injuries in the collision. The accident caused panic and traffic disruption on the Lucknow-Sultanpur Highway for some time as rescue teams cleared the wreckage from the road. Police later regulated traffic and removed the damaged vehicle with the help of cranes.
Family members of the deceased reached the hospital and the post-mortem house after receiving information about the tragedy.
Police have sent the bodies for post-mortem examination and said further investigation into the accident is underway.
