Mohali: Declaring No for Private Practice, Mohali Health Department authorities have recently warned the doctors against possible strict departmental action if they are found to be engaged in it.

Such a warning has come from the Mohali Civil Surgeon Dr Adarshpal Kaur, while she was addressing the doctors at the Civil Hospital.

Dr. Kaur addressed the issue of private practice and clarified that if doctors are engaged in private practice, they would not be able to devote enough time and energy in their work i.e. government service.

Although she lauded the government doctors for fulfilling their duties with due diligence and dedication, she also opined that the doctors getting engaged in Private Practice cannot be justified under any context.

Dr. Kaur was quoted saying by the Hindustan Times, "Government doctors in the district have to do either government jobs or private practice. There is no doubt that the government doctors are providing health care services with utmost diligence and dedication, but it does not justify private practice by them."

Clarifying that the doctors will have to choose between government jobs or private practice, the Mohali Civil Surgeon pointed out that the State Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Vijay Singla has given a strict instruction that government doctors engaging in Private Practice will not be forgiven at any cost, adds Amar Ujala.

Therefore, she warned the doctors against possible departmental action if they are found to be engaged in Private Practice. Further, the Heads of the Institutes have been instructed to ensure that there is no such doctor who engages in private practice. In case, any such matter comes to the notice of the authorities, then apart from taking action, the matter will be brought to the notice of the higher authorities, warned the Civil Surgeon.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that authorities had initiated probe after receiving reports of senior doctors including the heads of various departments (HODs) of Government Medical College and Rajindra Hospital indulging in private medical practice despite receiving non-practicing allowance (NPA). Many of these doctors were continuing private practice from their residence, despite being warned time and again not to indulge in Private Practice as they are already getting NPA from the Government.
