Gurugram: In a case of alleged medical negligence, a lady doctor at a private hospital in Sohna was booked on Sunday after a patient who was four months pregnant died last week due to botched pregnancy termination surgery.

Moreover, the doctor tried to cover up the incident by referring her to another hospital, where the doctors declared her brought dead.

According to a complaint filed by Ajay Chauhan, a resident of Shyam Kunj Bhondsi, he had admitted his four months pregnant wife to a private hospital in Sohna after she complained of abdominal pain.

On April 19, the patient began experiencing abdominal convulsions. Therefore, the husband took her to the private hospital in Sohna and on their first visit, the doctor got her ultrasound done and told the couple that the woman and the child were safe.

“On April 22, I again took my wife to the hospital after she complained of abdominal pain. A doctor there told us that the baby was not well. After two hours, she told me that my wife needs to be operated then she was taken to the first floor. When I visited my wife after a long wait, she was crying badly,” he said.

“Soon after, my wife was referred to another hospital in Gurugram where doctors declared her as brought dead,” the complainant said, alleging that his wife died due to the negligence of the doctor.

“When I met her after the procedure, my wife was in immense pain and was begging me to save her. I told the doctors she is in pain, but they said this was normal and she will recover soon. Soon after, she lost consciousness. Doctors then put her in an ambulance and asked me to rush to another hospital as the case was beyond their control,” the complaint informed TOI.

“The woman probably died soon after she collapsed on the table and the doctor and the hospital administration tried to cover up the matter by sending the body to another hospital. However, these are initial suspicions. Everything will become clear after a detailed inquiry,” said a senior police officer.

The senior police officer informed HT, "The husband had alleged that Rani was taken to the operation theatre to surgically terminate the pregnancy after failing to perform the same by administering oral medications. The hospital administration has denied this and said she was not taken to the OT. We have asked them for the CCTV footage to ascertain the truth, but the investigating officer has yet to receive it."

Contrary to this, a committee will be created to probe the matter in detail and action will be taken by the police based on the report.

“Based on the report of the committee, police will take action in the case. The committee will look into the actions of treating doctors as well as the list of medicines administered. The doctor has not been arrested as yet,” said Inspector Sunil Kumar, station house officer, at City Sohna police station.

When asked about the incident, Dr Virender Yadav, Gurugram CMO, said he has yet no knowledge of the incident. “We will carry out an inquiry in the case as per the law after receiving due communication from the police,” he said.

An FIR was registered against the doctor under sections 304-A (death due to negligence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Sohna City Police Station on Sunday.

“FIR has been registered and we are verifying the facts. The accused lady doctor will be arrested soon”, said Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Naresh Kumar, the investigating officer.
