Hand Grenade found at Manipur Doctor's Residence, Doctors' body demand action

Imphal: In a shocking incident, a hand grenade concealed in a bag was found at the residence of the Director-CEO of KARKINOS Manipur Cancer Institute & Research Centre in Chingmeirong Maning Leikai on Friday. The Association of Healthcare Providers India (AHPI), Manipur Chapter, and Manipur Branch of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) have condemned the incident and called for swift action against the miscreants. 

As per the police report, the grenade was discovered inside a bag hanging on the gate of the residence. The bag also contained a letter with the message, “KCP PWG last warning,” inscribed on it.

When the grenade was discovered, the police were immediately informed. After reaching the doctor's house, the police team safely retrieved the grenade at around 6.40 am. Following this, a case was registered based on the doctor's complaint, as reported by E-pao. 

The incident has led the AHPI and the IMA to voice grave concerns over increasing incidents of violence and threats targeting doctors, healthcare institutions, and their families.

In a press release on Monday, AHPI strongly condemned these acts, describing them as "alarming and demoralizing." The association emphasized that such actions could negatively affect the dedication of healthcare professionals who work tirelessly for the well-being of society.

“These acts are not only alarming but also demoralizing, potentially undermining the dedication and motivation of doctors who are committed to patient care and societal well-being,” reads the press release quoted by The Hills Times. 

Calling for an immediate cessation of all such violent acts, the association mentioned, "We urgently call for an immediate cessation of all such violent acts. These actions not only harm individuals but also disrupt the healthcare system, which is critical to the well-being of society. We appeal to all parties involved to respect the fundamental rights of healthcare professionals and the invaluable services they provide to the public."

Further, it added, “We implore the community to adopt peaceful dialogue and resolution, and to work together to ensure the safety and security of medical personnel, institutions, and families. Let us collectively reject violence and build a society that values the contributions of its healthcare workers.”
