Haryana gives in-principle nod for creating Specialist cadre post for MD, MS Doctors
Chandigarh: Fulfilling one of the key demands of the striking doctors in Haryana, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Tuesday gave his in-principle nod for creating specialist cadre post for MD or MS doctors.
Apart from this, it has also been clarified that from now on the doctors will not be given any administrative work and they will practice in their concerned specialty only, adds The Stateman.
Besides, Special sub cadre posts for specialists will be created by the government and these specialists will be designated as consultants or senior consultants.
With this, the long-standing demands of the doctors have been fulfilled, an official spokesperson told the daily.
This comes after around 3000 government doctors belonging to Haryana began a state-wide protest in Haryana on Tuesday for their pending demands. The major pending demands of the health professionals included hiring specialist doctors, stopping direct recruitment of senior medical officers and revision of the postgraduate policy.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that the doctors under the Haryana Civil Medical Services Association had participated in the protest which had subsequently resulted in the shutting down of the outpatient departments (OPDs) services at all government hospitals. The Government has also invoked ESMA on the doctors strike.
The demand for a separate cadre for specialist doctors in Haryana has been a long-pending demand and the State Government had been considering creating the same for quite some time in order to overcome the shortage of medical specialists at hospitals across the State.
Confirmation to this effect had been given by the State Health Minister Anil Vij while responding to a question asked during the ongoing budget session of the Assembly last year.
Previously, a doctor with MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) qualification and MD or MS qualification used to be in the same cadre.

As per the latest media report by The Statesman, with the government nod for the creation of a specialist cadre post, now the doctors will be able to focus on their work and this will ultimately protect their interest. Following this, the specialist cadre doctors will now be posted in big and renowned hospitals instead of Primary Health Centres (PHC).
While commenting on the matter, an official spokesperson told the daily that this will ensure that the doctors get swift promotions and become able to nurture their talent.
He further mentioned that patients will also be benefitted from this landmark decision as now they will receive the consultation of Specialists and the doctors will be able to monitor the patients closely and manage the working of the hospitals.
He also told the daily that the Chief Minister of the State opined that doctors have a pivotal role to play in the society especially amidst the present crisis and the government is committed to their welfare.
