Hours of delay in treatment? 5 Doctors at Jhansi Medical College Suspended after Patient's death

Jhansi: Five doctors at Jhansi Medical College have been suspended in connection with the death of an 18-year-old patient, who was admitted to the hospital after a road accident. It was alleged that after being brought to the hospital, the patient was attended to by the doctors after hours, leading to his worsened condition and consequent death.

Apart from the doctors, action has also been taken against four sister-in-charges, who have been removed from emergency duty. Previously, the Emergency Medical Officer Dr. RS Rana had been suspended in this connection.

News 18 has reported that the patient was seriously injured after being hit by a truck near Raksa Toll Plaza on February 20. His family brought him to the emergency ward at 12:46 PM, where the doctors started the treatment based on an emergency prescription. However, they did not prepare an admission file for the patient.

Even though the emergency unit had two X-ray machines, the on-duty surgeon and orthopaedic doctor sent the patient to the OPD. The first X-ray was conducted at 2:55 PM, and all 18 X-rays were completed by around 3:15 PM. Thereafter, the family proceeded for a CT scan at 3:40 PM and returned to the emergency ward at approximately 4:45 PM. However, by that time, the EMO Dr. RS Rana's duty had ended and Dr. Ravi Sharma had taken over as the EMO.

Meanwhile, the condition of the patient worsened and even though Dr Ravi immediately prepared an admission file, the delay allegedly caused the tragic death of the patient.

Previously EMO Dr RS Rana had been suspended in the matter and based on the investigation report of a four-member team, the Principal Dr Mayank Singh has now suspended five more doctors. The principal also removed four sister-in-charges including Shashi Masih and Shiva T from emergency duty.

The members of the investigation team included Dr Sudhir Kumar, Dr Nutan Agarwal, Dr Saurabh Agarwal, and Dr Sachin Mahur. As per News 18, the investigation team recorded statements from the doctors, nursing staff, and paramedical staff on duty. Based on the findings, the Principal suspended Dr. Vidyasagar, Dr. Vidushi, Dr. Harshvardhan, Dr. Juhi, and Dr. Divyansh and ordered a 10-day salary deduction. In the case of the sister-in-charge, a one-day salary deduction has been ordered for negligence.

Commenting on the matter, the CMS Dr. Sachin Mathur informed that the team investigated the incident following the orders issued by the Principal in this regard and disciplinary action was taken against some doctors and staff after the allegations of medical negligence were confirmed.
