Justice M Nagaprasanna stayed the cases against the doctor, a resident of Mylasandra, and questioned the Bengaluru Police for registering criminal cases against him after he had alerted officials about the presence of suspected illegal immigrants.

“The police are acting against the security of the nation. The police act in support of an illegal immigrant from Bangladesh against the people of this city. Stop appeasing,” Justice M Nagaprasanna orally observed.
The court was informed that police had communicated with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) based on information provided by the doctor regarding the alleged illegal stay of Bangladeshi nationals. Soon after, FIRs were registered against the doctor at Bellandur and Varthur police stations following complaints alleging that he had assaulted them.
The advocate appearing for the doctor submitted that the doctor had been arrested in one of the cases and released after spending a day in custody.
“There cannot be a better illustration of an abuse of the process of the law at the hands of the police. It is un-understandable as to how the crime even could be registered without there being any infliction of any injury, even according to the complaint in the case at hand. It is high time that the system stops supporting illegal immigrants, that too by registering crimes against persons of the city who only had shown such people as illegal immigrants,” Justice Nagaprasanna said in his order, reports Deccan Herald.
The court also pointed out that the complainant in one of the cases was listed as a resident of Bangladesh and said this should have prompted the Station House Officer (SHO) to verify the circumstances before registering the case.
Finding that the material placed before it indicated a possible abuse of the criminal process, the High Court stayed further proceedings against the doctor until further orders.
The Court directed that the FRRO be impleaded as a respondent and asked it to place instructions regarding the status of the alleged illegal immigrants before the Court. The matters have been listed for further hearing on August 6, 2026, reports the Court Book.
