Kerala based doctor seeks action against advertisements by Ayurveda pharma company
The doctor identified as Dr Babu has been observing for months that the company was advertising medicines that are needed for specific diseases and are not suitable to be shown to the public.
Kochi: Raising his voice against the violation made by an Indian Ayurveda Pharma company by flashing certain medicine, a Kerala-based doctor informed the Ayush ministry about the matter.
The doctor identified as Dr Babu has been observing for months that the company was advertising medicines that are needed for specific diseases and are not suitable to be shown to the public.
Under the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954 which is an Act of the Parliament of India which controls the advertising of drugs in India. It prohibits advertisements of drugs and remedies that claim to have magical properties and makes doing so a cognizable offence.
The company basically deals with Ayurvedic and natural health medicine. It came to the fore that the company has been violating sections 3 and 7 of DMR (OA) 1954 for their own personal benefits.
In response to the complaint of Dr Babu, the Ministry started a probe into the matter and notified three states' including Uttarakhand, Karnataka and Rajasthan licensing authorities to dig into the matter and reveal the cause behind the act.
The complainant reveals that the advertisements are being featured claiming efficacy in the treatment of diabetes and obesity, heart problems and blood pressure.
However after the state licensing authority of Uttarakhand came to know about the company, the authority warned them to not advertise such drugs and directed them to immediately stop any future advertisement in this regard.
The company has also been asked to submit a report clarifying the reason behind the advertisement soon.
While there are many doctors like Dr Babu that notice such actions but never raise their voices against the act, to which Dr Babu told TOI, "This is the beginning and much more needs to be done to stop the dissemination of false information through advertisements."
