Kerala: Orthopedic surgeon arrested for alleged sexual harassment of woman

Kochi: An orthopedic surgeon has been arrested by the Ernakulam North police as he was reported to have sexually harassed a young woman after making a false promise to her about marriage. 

The accused has been identified as a doctor associated with a private hospital in Edappally, reports the On Manorama.

He was taken into custody after a complaint was filed by the woman. The complainant is a resident of Kottayam. 

The complainant stated that the accused made a promise to marry her. Using that reason, he took her to apartments at Kathrikadavu and Chittoor in Kochi, where he is reported to have raped her. 

Further, the complainant said that the accused doctor was a sexual pervert. The police presented Sreehari before the court, who then remanded the accused, reports the On Manorama.  

The Medical Dialogues had earlier reported a similar story where a Rajkot-based woman doctor was reported to have been raped by a doctor from Ahmedabad. The accused was booked for his action after a complaint was filed by the victim. Nearly two months ago, it came to light that the number of rape cases has increased in Gujarat by 15 % in 2021 receiving two complaints every day and one complaint every day in Ahmedabad. 

In the above story, the accused was friends with the victim when they were students. The police had stated that while being in the relationship, the accused had promised to marry her. However, later at the end of their relationship, he backtracked from his promise. This led the woman to eventually file a complaint within Ahmedabad but was later transferred to Rajkot as the crime was reported to have been committed in Rajkot hotel. 

Further, the complainant had said that she was raped in hotels as well as at the doctor's house. The hostels in which the survivor was forced are situated in Rajkot and Jamnagar.
