Lucknow: The kingpin of a fake call centre racket, involved in cheating more than 15 doctors in Lucknow on the pretext of managing individual and family tourism to different countries at cheap prices was arrested on Wednesday.

The fake call centre racket used to operate from West Bengal.

The accused has been identified as a resident of Bardhman in West Bengal. The senior police officials said that he was arrested after a doctor of the city filed a fraud case against him at Mahanagar police station two weeks back.

The Lucknow additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP), North, Prachi Singh stated that the gang was responsible for cheating over 15 doctors from different places in Uttar Pradesh and other states using the same modus operandi. The main accused used to work as a Medical Representative (MR) due to which he had experience of calling and speaking to doctors, reports Hindustan Times.

When the accused lost his medical job during the beginning of pandemic in 2020, he got involved in the fraudulent business after learning the fraud act from his other accomplices in Jamtara, Jharkhand. The ADCP said, "Many similar calling fraud gangs have been unearthed from Jamtara in the past some years."

Further the officer added that the accused began targeting doctors since he enough experience of conversing with doctors, and he believed that they could be easily cheated by offering foreign tours at cheap prices.

ADCP Singh said, "The accused has duped around Rs 3 lakh from the city doctor and Rs 8 lakh from a West Bengal doctor recently. He is further being interrogated to extract details about his other victims and identities of his other accomplices."
