Around the same time, another resident of the same Thakurpukur premises, a trader, received a similar extortion note, this one demanding Rs 10 lakh. Police sources said that preliminary analysis suggests the handwriting on both letters appears to match, pointing to the involvement of the same person or group.
Both recipients have lodged formal complaints at Thakurpukur Police Station, and investigations are underway.
Police officials said the incident likely occurred on Monday evening. The doctor’s son stated that the family was “terrified” after receiving the threat and quickly informed both the local police and the Kolkata Police Commissioner. He added that all relevant documents, including the speed post envelope and address, were handed over to investigators.
Investigators are now examining the speed post tracking details and have begun collecting CCTV footage from Behala and Sakherbazar post offices, as well as from the doctor’s clinic and surrounding areas, to identify any suspicious individuals who might have posted or delivered the letters.
