Kolkata Doctor Rape-Murder Case: Doctors' Body Demands Update on Investigation
Kolkata: The West Bengal Joint Platform of Doctors (WBJPD), an umbrella group of senior medical professionals, has demanded updates on the investigation into the tragic death of a female postgraduate doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The doctors have raised their concerns by sending emails to both the state chief secretary and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) regarding the matter.
In their emails, the doctors expressed dissatisfaction with the delay in initiating judicial proceedings against Sandip Ghosh, a former principal of the hospital and one of the key accused in the case who was recently released on bail.

The CBI filed a chargesheet in the rape-murder case, naming the civic volunteer as the prime accused. Despite the commencement of trials, the CBI, however, failed to file a chargesheet in the financial irregularities case within the stipulated 90 days against Ghosh. Both Ghosh and Mondal were eventually granted bail.
This sparked fresh protests, with doctors accusing the probe agency of shielding the actual culprits. The parents of the medic subsequently petitioned the Calcutta High Court for a fresh investigation, vowing to continue their fight for justice.
Calling for accountability from the state government and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the doctors have urged the investigative agency to frame the supplementary charge sheet in the court as soon as possible, reports The Statesman.
Medical Dialogues team had recently reported that a group of protesting doctors marched to the West Bengal secretariat on Thursday, urging the issuance of a "no-objection certificate" to facilitate the CBI's investigation into the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital case.
Some doctors also went to the CBI's CGO Complex office and met the officers of the central agency to stress their demand to complete the probe into the R G Kar incident quickly.
In December, the Calcutta High Court granted conditional permission to the West Bengal Joint Platform of Doctors to hold a sit-in demonstration in central Kolkata. The protest was organized in response to the bail granted to two individuals accused of tampering with evidence in the brutal rape and murder case of a woman postgraduate doctor at RG Kar Medical College & Hospital in August.
