Kolkata psychiatrist bags international honor

Kolkata:  Dr. Baidyanath Ghosh Dastidar (Psychiatrist), has been honored with the International World Psychiatric Fellowship Award 2021. The WPA fellowship award was given to Dr. Dastidar by the World Congress of Psychiatry in 2021. This is the first time a doctor from West Bengal who works with the WBMES has been honoured with this international recognition.

Dr. Baidyanath Ghosh Dastidar is a consultant psychiatrist at the Calcutta National Medical College and will begin specialty training at the Norfolk University NHS Trust in the United Kingdom.
According to the press release, this is the highest recognition for Early Career Psychiatrists, and the award is based on research and academic status. This the second time that the doctor has successfully bagged an international award. He received an award for outstanding oral presentation at the 2017 SAARC Congress earlier this year. Dr. Norman Sartorius, NYU, Dr. Danuta Wasserman, Karolinska University, Dr. Afzal Jawed, WPA President, and Dr. Peter Mazaroff were on the panel.
He served as a senior researcher at the University of East Anglia. After that, he has been selected to work as a speciality doctor for Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He had been a part of RJ Kar Medical college for the last six years. He started working in the facility in July 2015. Dr. Dastidar describes himself as a Psychiatrist, Blogger & Adventure Enthusiast. " I focus on doctors as the community has been neglected for long. I promote Mental Well Being & Health for all", he stated.
Dr. Dastidar expressed gratitude to his parents, Member of Parliament Dr. Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar and his father, Dr. Sudarshan Ghosh Dastidar, for encouraging him to study medicine, reported The Telegraph. He also expressed gratitude to his lecturers at RG Kar Medical College.
