Kollam doctor escapes sexual assault attempt, accused arrested

Kollam: The Kollam district police have arrested a 25-year-old man for allegedly attempting to sexually assault a woman doctor at her dental clinic in Pathanapuram on Saturday.

The accused reportedly entered the clinic under the pretext of seeking treatment and tried to gag the doctor with pieces of cloth during the assault.

According to the PTI report, the accused, Saldan, a native of Karamood here, was arrested by Pathanapuram police on Saturday evening.

According to police, the accused tried to assault the female doctor by stuffing her mouth with clothes.

“However, she managed to alert the local people, who rushed to the clinic and caught him red-handed. Her father’s shop is also located nearby the clinic,” a police officer said.

The doctor’s detailed statement was recorded, and the accused was taken to the clinic on Sunday as part of evidence collection, reports PTI.

Sakdan was remanded to judicial custody by a local court, police added.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that in a disturbing incident from Tamil Nadu, a 25-year-old female dentist was allegedly assaulted by a male colleague after she repeatedly rejected his marriage proposals. The attack left the doctor with serious injuries on her face, neck, arms, and other parts of her body, and she was receiving treatment at the Hosur Government Hospital. Police have launched an investigation into the matter.
