Kozhikode: Following the attack on a female doctor associated with the Institute of Maternal and Child Health (IMCH), the accused have not been nabbed by the police yet.

The case was registered nearly one week ago yet still the accused is on the loose. The police have failed to arrest the accused after one week of investigation. 

The accused is a 52-year-old, resident of Ummalathur and the victim identified as K.Ambili, a lecturer at the IMCH got into a fight on May 25 when she was heading toward her college quarter. The accused started a verbal fight claiming that the doctor was not driving properly. In the course of the argument, his phone dropped on the road near Chevayur, leading to a sudden physical attack on the doctor.

The doctor suffered severe injuries including two fractures on her nasal bone. She was rushed to a hospital for treatment.

Upon being asked about the investigation, police officers confirmed that it will take a few days to nab the accused.

Blaming the police for the slow operation of the case, the victim told TH, "I suffered grievous hurt in the incident and was really struggling to take it up publicly for justice. As the surgery was not recommended to fix the fractures, I was undergoing conservative treatment amid the traumatic experience."

Seeking justice for the complainant, the State and district committees of the Kerala Government Medical College Teachers' Association (KGMCTA) urged the government to look after the case as well as criticized the current situation of the investigation.

State president Nirmal Bhaskar and secretary C.S. Aravind of the association demanded immediate action on the case and asked to ensure such incidents from happening in future.

A protest was also organized in view of the incident on Thursday with more than 50 doctors along with Dr Ambili.

KGMCTA district secretary T. Gopakumar said "To draw the attention of the authorities concerned, KGMCTA's district committee also organised a protest near the Government Medical College Hospital, Kozhikode, on Thursday. More than 50 doctors turned up for the sit-in and expressed solidarity with Dr. Ambili."
