Ludhiana: After an on-duty medical officer at the civil hospital in Ludhiana was assaulted, the police arrested three persons associated with the attack. The accused manhandled the hospital security guard, and when the medical officer tried to resolve the issue, the accused attacked him too.

The incident was reported at midnight on Tuesday when five people, in a drunken state, attempted to break the doors of the Emergency Medical Officer duty room at the Civil Hospital while using abusive language.

The victim has been identified as a District forensic expert, a nodal officer at the emergency ward of the civil hospital, Dr Charan Kamal Ladhar, who said that he was attacked when he asked the accused to wait for their turn, who were demanding their medico-legal report (MLR) to be released on priority. The accused had gone for a medical examination at the civil hospital when they caused this ruckus.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, the doctor said, "Five persons reported at the emergency ward of the civil hospital around midnight on Tuesday for their medicolegal examination. They were told to wait for their turn for a medico-legal report (MLR) after the examination of their injuries."

The doctor was on night duty when the accused began attacking the security guard, reports the Times of India. The doctor added, "They tried to barge into the doctor's room after thrashing the security guard. I tried to assuage them but they pulled me from my collar and bit my hand, when I ran into my office, they came behind me and ransacked my office." He alleged that the assailants, who were in an inebriated state, were saying that they were close to a local leader and were demanding their MLR report to be released on a priority basis.

Eventually, the situation came under control after police personnel and a security guard intervened during which the assailants also suffered minor injuries. A complaint was filed with the police, who registered an FIR against three accused identified as Sohan Singh of SBS Nagar, Rajvir Singh of Cheema village, and Sandeep of GGS Nagar.

The FIR was registered under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means, 353 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of his public functions), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 34 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offense committed in prosecution of common object) of the IPC and Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.
