Nagpur: A homeopathy doctor has been allegedly cheated of Rs 4.5 crore by a social media influencer on the pretext of getting a medical college sanctioned in his name and ''saving him from arrest'' in a non-existent Central Bureau of Investigation case. The Nagpur police have booked the accused.
The victim came in contact with the accused through a relative and spoke of his desire to start a homeopathy college, the Kotwali police station official said.

''The accused extorted Rs 4.5 crore from the victim by claiming he had contacts with various departments in the Union and state governments. He also took money from the victim after finding out the latter was a guarantor for a bank loan,'' the official said.

Police have seized various documents, and laptops from the accused's residence during a raid on Tuesday evening but he has been booked and not arrested as his health condition is poor, the official informed.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that a city-based retired doctor had approached the Mullanpur police station after he was duped of Rs 11.54 lakh by three persons through an online employment portal on the pretext of getting him a job in the Gulf. The complaint was registered by a retired doctor from the health department, alleging that some people cheated him after he registered for a job on an online employment portal in January this year.
