MP doctor booked for demanding bribe for postmortem report
Indore: The Lokayukta police in Madhya Pradesh's Jhabua district have registered a case against a medical officer at a community health centre for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 50,000 in exchange for releasing the post-mortem report of a drowning victim.
According to the PTI report, Deputy Superintendent of Police Praveen Singh Baghel identified the accused as Dr Arpit Kumar Nayak (29), a medical officer at a community health centre.
The operation was initiated after a complaint from 42-year-old Dinesh Makwana, a resident of Kallipura village. Makwana alleged that Dr Arpit Kumar Nayak, a 29-year-old medical officer, had demanded a bribe of Rs 50,000 in return for releasing the post-mortem report.

He sought a bribe of Rs 50,000 from the kin of a man who drowned in a pond. The amount was later reduced to Rs 40,000. We laid a trap but he refused to take the amount from the complainant after getting suspicious,” Baghel said.
He has been booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act and further probe into the incident is underway, the Deputy SP added.
As per a media report in the Free Press Journal, the report pertained to the death of the applicant’s cousin, Ramesh, who drowned in a pond on October 29. Makwana told Lokayukta sleuths that when he negotiated, Nayak agreed to give away the autopsy report for Rs 40,000. After receiving the complaint, Indore Lokayukta SP Rajesh Sahay verified the allegations and laid a trap to nab the corrupt medical officer.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that the Odisha Anti-corruption vigilance officials arrested the medical officer in charge at Baipariguda Community Health Centre (CHC) and a pharmacist for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000 from a nursing officer.
