Bhopal: Providing major relief to the doctors of medical colleges across the state, the Madhya Pradesh government has promised to provide the 7th Pay Commission pay scale with effect from January 1, 2016, as well as time-bound salary increments to the doctors.

The announcement in this regard was made by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Monday who said that time-bound-pay scales will be given to doctors of all departments, and salary increments will be given in five, ten and fifteen years without the compulsion of promotion.

"Anomalies in Non-Practicing Allowance (NPA) computation will be set right. Doctors on contract will also get the same facilities as contract workers. Doctors of all departments will get equal salaries for equal work. The compulsory service-related bond amount of medical students in rural areas will be rationalized," Chouhan told PTI.

He said the pay scale of assistant professors in medical colleges will be rectified and rules for shifting 11 nursing homes in the city will be simplified.

MP Medical Education Officer Vishvas Sarang said Chouhan was tirelessly working to upgrade health services, and cited the introduction of the MBBS course education in Hindi language, which is a first for any state in the country.

Sarang said health services in the country have improved drastically following the initiatives of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while the number of medical colleges was increasing rapidly in Madhya Pradesh.

"There has been a lot of improvement in health services in the country, while the number of medical colleges in Madhya Pradesh is increasing rapidly. Madhya Pradesh has become the first state to start MBBS courses in Hindi," Sarang told IANS.

The minister further said that, in 2002-2003, the health budget of the state was around Rs 578 crore, which has increased almost 20 times to Rs 11,988 crore in 2023-2024. "In 2003 the number of doctors and para-medical staff was around 7500, which has now increased to more than 51,000. Till 2003, the number of government medical colleges was five, which will increase to 24 in 2023," Sarang added.
