NEIGRIHMS doctors win Award for Cataract Research Study
Shillong: A team of doctors led by Prof Tanie Natung from North East Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), Meghalaya, received the 'Best of Indian Journal of Ophthalmology Award' during the 40th Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology Congress in conjunction with the 83rd Annual Conference of the All-India Ophthalmological Society held from April 3 to April 6, at New Delhi.
Over 13500 delegates from different countries participated and exchanged their scientific knowledge, experiences, learnings, and outcomes of scientific researches in this combined APAO-AIOS conference, news agency UNI reported.
This prestigious award was given for the research study which compared two techniques in selecting the most appropriate lens power calculation formula for cataract cases thereby improving the vision outcomes for patients with the least possible errors.

Prof. Natung said that the research will surely guide ophthalmologist around the world to provide best outcomes in cataract surgeries.
Dr. Ishita Pandey, Dr. Benjamin Nongrum and Dr. Ester K Sekhose from the Department of Ophthalmology NEIGRIHMS conducted the study led and guided by Prof. Tanie Natung.
Meanwhile, Director NEIGRIHMS, Prof. Nalin Mehta, congratulated Prof. Tanie Natung and team for their efforts in adding quality scientific research in the field of ophthalmology with the aim of improving the patient outcomes.
The Indian Journal of Ophthalmology is a very prestigious and widely circulated medical journal with good impact factor.
The Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology is the largest body of Ophthalmologists of the Asia-Pacific region & All India Ophthalmological Society is the largest body of medical societies of any specialty with about 27000 members at present.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that Minister for Health and Family Welfare, P Paiwang Konyak, graced the felicitation programme of KAYAKALP Awardees for the year 2023-24 and 2024-25 at the conference hall of the Directorate of Health & Family Welfare, Kohima on 25th March 2025.
