Hyderabad: An Additional Medical Superintendent and Additional Professor at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) has been placed under deemed suspension following his arrest by the Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in a disproportionate assets case.

According to Telangana Today, the suspension order was issued by the NIMS Director after the officer remained in custody for more than 48 hours. The suspension will take effect from the date of his detention and remain in force until further orders.

The action follows after the ACB conducted searches at multiple locations as part of its investigation into allegations that the officer accumulated assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

Medical Dialogues earlier reported that an Additional Medical Superintendent at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) has been booked by the Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in a disproportionate assets case after searches allegedly uncovered assets worth around Rs 6.13 crore.

The ACB conducted simultaneous searches at eight locations in Hyderabad, including the official’s residence in Erragadda and premises linked to relatives, friends and associates. According to the agency, the assets were accumulated through corrupt practices and were disproportionate to the official’s known sources of income.

Initial search operations uncovered massive accumulated wealth allegedly linked to the doctor, with the registered document values amounting to approximately Rs 6.13 crore and the estimated market value ranging between Rs 80 crore and Rs 100 crore. The ACB recovered luxury vehicles and gold jewellery and uncovered multiple flats and open plots in prime areas, Telangana Today reported.

The agency also identified financial holdings including bank deposits, post office investments, private financial investments and mutual funds. Around 517.8 grams of gold ornaments, three cars, four two-wheelers and electronic devices were also recovered.

These searches reportedly led to the identification of further properties, including plots in Banjara Hills and agricultural land in Maheshwaram, besides unaccounted cash.

The case has been registered under Sections 13(1)(b) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as amended in 2018. The ACB is continuing to verify the assets, their sources and any additional properties or financial holdings linked to the case.
