Dr Sanjay also worked as project director and officer on special duty on a Health Management and Information System (HMIS) project, which was a significant step towards e-Governance policy and improved healthcare delivery and medical standards education. His experience working on this project would also benefit IGGMCH, TOI reports.

He was born in Amravati and earned his MBBS degree from the Government Medical College Hospital (GMCH) in Nagpur in 1977. He is currently employed by Grant Medical College in Mumbai as a professor and the head of the pathology department.

After Post Graduation, Dr Sanjay did some work in Genetics and later joined Government medical institutes. His last stint was in J J Hospital, Mumbai.

The government also filled posts of Deans in Latur (Dr Sameer Joshi), Osmanabad (Dr Shilpa Domkundwar), Alibag (Dr Purva Patil), Aurangabad (Dr Sanjay Rathod) along with Dr Sanjay Bijwe who is likely to take the charge next week.

About six months ago, the government had given the additional charge of IGGMCH to Dr Leena Abhichandani, the post was not regular and its recruitment was underway.
