Kolkata: A Post Graduate Trainee (PGT) doctor from Kolkata Medical College and Hospital has been arrested for allegedly engaging in sexual activity with a woman under the false promise of marriage, a police officer said on Friday.

The accused has been identified as a resident of Malda, working at the Kolkata Medical College and Hospital.

According to the PTI report, the woman, a resident of North Bengal and working here, lodged her complaint with the Patuli police station, based on which the accused PGT doctor was picked up from the hospital premises, he said.

Initial probe revealed that the accused is from Malda and they met each other over a social networking site, the officer said.

“The victim has complained that the accused promised her marriage and used to force her into physical relations. She has alleged getting pregnant twice and the doctor has aborted her on both occasions without her consent,” he said.

Later, the accused started avoiding her and tried to build distance, the officer added, reports PTI.

The accused, police said, is staying at a rented accommodation in the Bowbazar area.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that the Kotwali police have registered a case against a government doctor accused of creating obscene videos while dressed as a woman, uploading them on adult sites and operating under a fake transgender identity. The complaint was filed by doctor's wife, who claimed to have discovered several such videos online.

Chief Medical Officer Ramanuj Kannaujia said that a departmental inquiry has been initiated against the doctor.

According to the FIR registered at Khalilabad Kotwali police station on May 18, the doctor, posted at a community health centre, allegedly used his government accommodation as a makeshift studio to shoot the videos.
