PMCH, NMCH makes white aprons mandatory for doctors

Patna: In a bid to improve the healthcare system in the state-run medical colleges, all doctors of Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) and Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH) have been asked to maintain a dress code of a white apron mandatory within the campus. 

Doctors, including interns, postgraduate students, senior residents, assistant professors, associate professors and professors, have been directed to wear a white apron while discharging duties at OPD, wards and other places. In addition to doctors, the hospital staff will also be required to adhere to the dress code as per the direction of the medical superintendent of PMCH.

The decision came into action after Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar Tejashwi Prasad Yadav on May 4 launched ‘Mission Parivartan’ on the lines of ‘Mission 60 Days’ to improve the health of all medical college hospitals. 

The main objective of this mission is to make hospitals Patient-Friendly, to enforce discipline in colleges and to arrange treatment based on manpower. Apart from this, this mission also includes cleanliness in medical colleges, and hospitals, waiting rooms for patients and relatives to sit, installation of signages, and the establishment of 'May I Help You' desks.

Following this, PMCH superintendent Dr I S Thakur directed all heads of the department to strictly implement the dress code. “The dress code is being enforced with immediate effect under the directives issued by the health department. Besides, other paramedical staff of the hospital would also have to follow the dress code."

Along with this, NMCH superintendent Dr Rajiv Ranjan also confirmed that the same guidelines have been given to the doctors and department heads about the strict implementation of the dress code. 

“The entire campus was being cleaned and things were being improved for providing better services to the patients,” Ranjan informed TOI. 

Along with the launching of the mission, the task has been given to make full use of the manpower available in the medical colleges for the treatment. The performance will have to be shown by improving the basic facilities of medical colleges. 

Medical colleges will be reviewed again in a month so that it can be assessed how much change is visible in the direction of working style, system and treatment.
