Pune: The crime branch has opposed the bail pleas made by the suspended head of the forensic sciences department at Sassoon General Hospital, and his co-accused Amar Gaikwad in connection with the Pune Porsche crash case.

Submitting a written statement to the special court on Thursday, the crime branch opposed the bail plea of the accused after the special court referred to hear them on July 1 along with other bail pleas related to this case.

Pune police commissioner Amitesh Kumar told TOI, “We have opposed the bail pleas as the investigating officer has collected sufficient evidence against them. The car crash case is at a crucial stage of investigation and we fear it might be hampered if the two accused are released on bail.”

Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that two doctors of Sassoon Hospital were arrested for allegedly discarding the blood samples of the 17-year-old boy suspect accused of murdering two software engineers and replacing them with another person's samples.

The two doctors accused of tampering with the blood sample reports include the head of the Forensic Medicine department of Sassoon General Hospital and the chief medical officer of the Sassoon Hospital.

During the investigation, it was revealed that the Chief Medical Officer reportedly replaced the blood samples on the direction of the HOD on 19th May at around 11 am. The CMO allegedly threw the blood samples in a dustbin of the hospital and sent the blood samples of another person to the forensic lab. As a result, the report showed no alcohol traces of the accused.

Later, the state government suspended them based on the recommendation of the Maharashtra Medical Education Department commissioner.

As per a TOI news report, Gaikwad, one of the co-accused in this case, purportedly assisted in providing the contact details of the teenager's father to the head of the forensic sciences department at Sassoon General Hospital, along with another co-accused named Ashfaque Makandar.

Meanwhile, the court has also received bail pleas of the suspended chief medical officer of the Sassoon Hospital who allegedly disposed of the teenager’s blood sample at the HOD's instruction.

Additional public prosecutor Anil Kumbhar said, “HOD Dr *** and Gaikwad’s pleas came up for hearing before the court, but the presiding judge preferred to hear them on July 1 along with the other three bail pleas.”
