Prayagraj: Junior resident assaulted in broad daylight, FIR filed after 11 days
Doctor Thrashed by Group Outside Hospital, One Arrested After FIR Delay
Prayagraj: A shocking incident of violence against a medical professional has come to light from Prayagraj, where a junior resident doctor was allegedly assaulted in broad daylight by a group of miscreants.
The attack, which took place on March 14, has raised concerns about the safety of healthcare workers. The doctor reportedly mentioned that despite his repeated follow-ups, no formal First Information Report (FIR) was registered until March 25, eleven days after the incident.
According to the news reports, the victim, a junior resident in the surgery department at Motilal Nehru Medical College, is currently undergoing a three-month training assignment at the divisional hospital. He mentioned the incident occurred shortly after he had finished his outpatient department (OPD) duties and was on his way back to his residence.

Despite the doctor’s pleas, the attackers continued the assault until a crowd began to gather, prompting them to flee the scene. Before leaving, they reportedly issued threats, warning him against approaching the police.
The doctor immediately informed his senior colleagues and filed a complaint at Shahganj police station the same day. Police officials visited the scene, questioned local shopkeepers, including the water vendor, and collected CCTV footage that reportedly captured the attackers.
However, the doctor had stated that despite his repeated follow-ups, no formal First Information Report (FIR) was registered until March 25, eleven days after the incident.
Following the registration of the FIR, police arrested one of the accused, who has since been sent to jail. Efforts are reportedly ongoing to identify and apprehend the remaining suspects.
Speaking to Bhaskar English, Station House Officer Kapil Kumar said, “I personally called the doctor and spoke to him, but he was reluctant to file an FIR. Later, he provided a written complaint, and a case was registered, and the accused, ***, was arrested and sent to jail.”
