Prof Dr JA Jayalal invited as Distinguished Guest at Prestigious Commonwealth Day Service

New Delhi: In a moment of pride for India and the global medical fraternity, Professor Dr JA Jayalal, the President of the Commonwealth Medical Association (CMA), was invited as a distinguished guest at the Commonwealth Day Service of Celebration. 

The prestigious event took place on March 10, 2025, at the historic Westminster Abbey in London.

The Commonwealth Day Service is the world’s premier public event commemorating the unity and shared values of the Commonwealth. Organized by the Royal Commonwealth Society, the event saw the gracious presence of His Majesty The King Charles III - Head of the Commonwealth, Her Majesty the Queen, other members of the Royal Family, UK and Commonwealth dignitaries, diplomatic representatives, and members of the Commonwealth community.

During the Commonwealth Day dinner hosted by His Majesty the King, Dr. Jayalal had the distinct honour of engaging in discussions with the King. His Majesty expressed warm greetings to India and acknowledged the pivotal role of the Commonwealth Medical Association in addressing pressing health challenges.

The King specifically encouraged CMA to enhance its efforts in combating Non-Communicable Diseases and malaria eradication—both of which remain significant public health concerns in many Commonwealth nations.

Dr. Jayalal’s invitation to this high-profile celebration marks a significant recognition of his contributions to global health and his leadership in advancing medical collaboration across Commonwealth nations. It is noteworthy that Dr Jayalal has served in various leadership roles of the Indian Medical Association, including his role as its National President. Currently serving as the President of CMA, Dr. Jayalal continues to advocate for equitable healthcare with a specific focus on various pressing issues like Antimicrobial Resistance.

With India playing an increasingly crucial role in shaping global health policies, Dr. Jayalal’s recognition at such a prestigious event is a beacon of inspiration for Indian medical professionals and a reaffirmation of India’s commitment to improving Global Health.
