New Delhi: Prof Dr Suresh Kumar, Director of Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital (LNJP), New Delhi, has been given the additional charge of Director of Guru Tegh Bahadur (GTB) hospital.

Dr Suresh Kumar has served as the Director-Professor (Medicine) at Maulana Azad Medical College. He was appointed as the new medical director of the LNJP Hospital, a dedicated COVID-19 facility in Delhi in 2020.

Taking over as the additional charge of UCMS and GTB Hospital, Dr. Suresh told Medical Dialogues, " I have been responsible for supervising but the success of the hospital depends largely on the staff, starting from the sanitary workers to resident doctors. I have been blessed with an exceptionally talented and cooperative team that helps me to serve such additional duties with equal efficiency. I have to oversee the overall progress of the hospital, patient care and I also have to perform teaching-related duties."

When asked about his work-life balance, he added, " I have been handling such responsibilities for two decades now and I am very much passionate about my work, so it doesn't seem like an imposition. Now situations are quite stable but during COVID I even worked for 12 to 15 hours a day often. Hence, I am used to the pressure. I focus on the outcome and I am glad to share that our Loknayak Hospital received praise from the UN also for treating almost 25000 patients which is the highest in the world. We also performed the 840 deliveries and vaccinated almost 1 Lakh people."

Dr Rohan Krishnan, a member of the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) congratulated the doctor and stated, " I think he has proven his efficiency in Lok Nayak Hospital. Since he joined the institution, there has been a massive change in the attitudes of the employees. I think that is the reason that the government has entrusted him with such a difficult task of managing two such hospitals which have a great patient load."

"He has a doctor-friendly and nurses-friendly attitude. He has been pro-patient care in all aspects. His dedication and hard work during the pandemic are known throughout the country and the world. I welcome this step of the minister to bring Dr Suresh as an opportunity to improve the facility more. I think he has the capability to handle and improve both the hospitals very frequently and simultaneously", he added.

Assistant Professor, Dept of Radiodiagnosis and Interventional Radiology, Dr Amarinder Singh Malhi has also congratulated Dr Suresh and stated, " Many congratulations to Dr Suresh Kumar Sir, Director, LNH&MAMC, New Delhi for being given additional charge for Director, GTB Hospital & UCMS, New Delhi.
