Real Life Horror! Debt-driven Doctor Burns Man Alive to Claim Insurance in UP
Meerut: In a horrifying incident, a Baghpat-based doctor, who was facing a huge Rs 30 lakh debt that he could not repay, is alleged to have burned a man alive to fake his own death and claim insurance money to settle his debts.
What is more disturbing is that the doctor allegedly planned the whole thing, calculated every step and he was allegedly inspired by a popular crime television series, CID. After inviting the deceased for a couple of drinks, the accused doctor put the deceased inside the doctor's own car to make it look like that the doctor himself had been murdered.
Confirming that the accused doctor has been arrested, SP (city) Abhimanyu Manglik further informed that the doctor also confessed to the crime during the interrogation. The accused has been booked under BNS Sections 103-1 (murder) and 238 (causing disappearance of evidence).
As per the latest media report by the Times of India, the deceased is a 32-year-old daily wage labourer known for his fondness for alcohol. He used to live near the accused doctor- a unani practitioner\s Dr. Mubarik's clinic in Habibgarh. They knew each other for three years, possibly due to their doctor-patient relationship.
TOI has reported that last Sunday, the doctor allegedly lured the deceased with the promise of free drinks. After the man was drunk and defenseless, the accused doctor drove him to an isolated spot near a canal in Saharanpur and locked him inside the car and set it ablaze. Soon, he left the scene, leaving behind a charred body to help him build the story of his fabricated demise and claim insurance money.
However, his scheme did not go according to the plan as a passerby had discovered the burnt car on Monday and called the police. Consequently, police brought in forensic teams to investigate the mangled body.
Meanwhile, troubled by his long absence, the deceased man's family had reported him to be missing and consequently police got to know from the locals that the man had last been seen drinking with Dr. Mubarik.
Describing the grotesque narrative, SP (city) Abhimanyu Manglik told TOI, "Consumed by the debt, Dr Mubarik Ahmed, 35, was looking for a corpse to substitute as his own. He intended to torch a car with the body inside, making it appear as though he had been murdered. His family, particularly his wife, was to use the death certificate to claim insurance payouts and settle bank loans."
Confirming that the accused has been arrested, the SP added, "He has been arrested, and he confessed to the crime during interrogation. He has been charged under BNS sections 103-1 (murder) and 238 (causing disappearance of evidence) and sent to jail."
India Today has reported that during the interrogation, Dr. Mubarak admitted to the crime. He reportedly told the police, "I wanted to become rich quickly...I planned to fake my death, enabling my wife to claim insurance money and clear my loans."
During the investigation, police recovered evidence, including a petrol can, gloves, and Sonu's necklace, which had been removed before the car was set on fire. Meanwhile, CCTV footage also showed that two men together on the night of the incident, buying alcohol.
As per the police, the wife of the accused doctor had no idea about the murder. Commenting on this, SP Manglik said, "She thought he would use an unclaimed body to fake his death," further adding that "There is no evidence of her involvement at this stage."
Commenting on the matter, the SP added, "This was a meticulously planned crime, but our team pieced together evidence quickly, leading to the arrest. The accused has confessed, and we are continuing to investigate further links."
The accused doctor has been booked and sent to jail. As per the media report by Amar Ujala, he is a Unani practitioner. He had bought two cars and two bikes on finance around six months ago. He had taken an insurance of Rs 5 lakh and a personal lank of Rs 10 lakh from the bank. He also started paying GST.
Apart from this, he also took a Rs 9 lakh loan from his neighbour Masood alias Lilu to get cheap land. Further, he borrowed lakhs of rupees from other people.
