Phagwara: In a significant achievement, renowned ophthalmologist Dr Tushar Aggarwal has been elected as the president of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Phagwara unanimously for the year 2025-26. 

Similarly, Dr Poonam has been also elected as the secretary, Dr Kamal Kishore and Dr Supreet Virk as the vice presidents, Dr Davinder Kaur as finance secretary and Dr Munish Jindal and Dr Anil Tandon as joint secretaries for the association.

Associated with Guru Nanak Mission Hospital Dhahan-Kaleran, Dr Tushar Aggarwal played a key role in establishing the ophthalmology department at the hospital. He is highly experienced in managing corneal diseases and performing eye surgeries including cataract, filtration and refractive procedures. 

With his team, he has performed over 10,000 phacoemulsification (a.k.a. phaco) cataract surgeries using a variety of intraocular lenses (IOLs) including toric, multifocal, trifocal and extended depth of focus (EDOF) lenses.

He is also capable of using lasers for eye treatments. These include pan-retinal photocoagulation (PRP), grid laser treatments, focal laser treatments and other types of retinal therapy laser treatments.

Dr. Aggarwal completed his Bachelor of Medicine, and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in 2002 From Baba Farid University of Health Sciences. He earned his Diploma in Ophthalmic Medicine & Surgery (DOMS) in 2008 from JJM Medical College in Davanagere under Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS). He obtained his Diplomate of National Board (DNB) in Ophthalmology from Dr Agarwal’s Eye Hospital & Eye Research Centre in Chennai in 2010.

Presently, his practice focuses on comprehensive ophthalmology, phaco cataract procedures, and retinal diseases.

As per The Tribune news report, the meeting, held here last night, was presided over by Dr. Jasjit Singh Virk. Eminent physician Dr. S.P. Singh Sooch attended as an observer from the Punjab Medical Council. The event was attended by several distinguished doctors, including Dr S. Mahindra, orthopaedic surgeon Dr Amrik Singh Parhar, skin specialist Dr Mohan Singh, Dr Gurpreet Kaur, Dr Vijay Sharma, Dr Puneet Galhotra, Dr Ranjit Nagpal, Dr Romesh Arora, Dr Chiman Arora, Dr G.P. Singh, Dr N.P.S. Makkar, Dr J.S. Virk, and Dr Inderjit Singh.
