New Delhi: Taking strict action against the Jhunjhunu doctor who was accused of removing a patient's healthy right kidney, the Rajasthan Medical Council revoked his registration to practice medicine on Wednesday. Apart from him, the State Medical Council has cancelled the registration of seven other doctors and suspended two more doctors for six months after finding them guilty in other matters.

As per the latest media report by TOI, the council recently cancelled the registrations of Dr. Sanjay Dhankhar, Dr Ganpat Singh, Dr M Sajid, Dr M Afzal, Dr Krishna Soni, Dr Bomma Reddy Hari Krishna, Dr Jaydeep Singh, and Dr Baljeet Kaur. Further, the council suspended Dr. Ajay Agarwal and Dr. Suman Agarwal for a period of six months.

Among these, Dr. Dhankar was accused of performing a botched surgery on a patient of Rajasthan's Nua in Jhunjhunu district. Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that the doctor at a private hospital allegedly removed the healthy left kidney of a patient instead of the right kidney, which was affected by kidney stones. In response, the Rajasthan government cancelled the registration of the hospital with immediate effect.

Following the surgery, the patient's health deteriorated and she was referred to another hospital in a rush. The issue of negligence came to light when the doctors in Jaipur informed the patient of the incident after examining her. Following this, the matter gained media attention and an investigation was launched.

Consequently, the police registered an FIR into the case and when the hospital was searched, a lot of suspicious materials were seized from there. The police got hold of evidence suggesting tampering of documents and stamps of doctors.

According to the press release issued by the police, it was mentioned that Dr Dhankhar has a criminal record and has two previous cases registered against him. The previous cases were registered against Dr Dhankhar in 2015 and 2016 under Section 304A of the Indian Penal Code.

The doctor, who had been evading authorities for a week was arrested by the Rajasthan Police from Rajkot earlier this month. He conducted the controversial surgery on May 15 at a private hospital in Jhunjhunu. Earlier, a State health department had also concluded the surgery was an instance of 'medical negligence'.

Commenting on the matter, the Registrar of RMC, Dr. Rajesh Sharma informed the Times of India, "Dr Dhankar's case was presented before the panel today (Wednesday). The medical negligence case against him is going on in the court. After going through the evidence and investigation report of the health department, his registration has been cancelled."

The decision in this regard was taken at the general body meeting of the RMC, held under the chairmanship of Dr. Ravi Prakash Mathur, Director of Public Health. In this meeting, 22 nominated members from medical colleges participated in the meeting. Dr. Sharma informed that altogether 25 cases came before the RMC's panel and ethics committee.

Dr. Sharma told TOI, "The council also found the degrees of two govt doctors, Dr Ganpat Singh and Dr Jaydeep Singh, as fake. The registration of two doctors, who were allegedly found involved in the sex determination of fetuses, has been suspended for six months. Besides, three other doctors in private hospitals were found to be working with fake degrees. Their registrations have also been cancelled."

Meanwhile, the patient whose healthy kidney was removed is undergoing dialysis and treatment at the superspecialty hospital of SMS Medical College, TOI has reported.
