South Delhi Doctor Murder Case: Mastermind used 8 mobiles, 20 SIMs to evade police, nabbed near Nepal border
New Delhi: The Delhi Police Crime Branch recently apprehended a mastermind behind the gruesome murder of a 63-year-old general physician in Delhi's Jangpurai who had a Rs 50,000 bounty on his head. He used eight mobile phones and 20 SIM cards to evade capture but was ultimately nabbed near the Indo-Nepal border after a 1,600-kilometer pursuit by a police team.
Because of the sensitivity of the case, a dedicated team was constituted to review the case and nab the accused identified as Vishnuswaroop Shahi. The team comprising SIs Gaurav & Ankit, HCs Naveen, Tarun, Nitesh, Sunil & Vinod under the leadership of Insp. Mahipal, supervision of Insp. Satendra Mohan & Sh. Ramesh Chander Lamba, ACP/ISC was constituted.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that Dr Yogesh Chander Paul, a 63-year-old physician was murdered by four men who broke into his house, tied his hands and feet up, and strangled him to death on May 10.
The doctor’s body was discovered by his wife who was away when the intruders broke into their house, situated in a relatively quiet area and committed the heinous act. The intruders also locked the doctor's two dogs in the bathroom.

He was found dead on the kitchen floor with his hands and feet tied up. Preliminary reports suggest that there were visible signs of strangulation on his neck and indications of physical assault on his face. Later, the police arrested the mastermind of the case, a house help working for 24 years at the doctor's house along with two of her aids in connection.
During the search of Vishnuswaroop Shahi, some of his old mobile numbers were found in HC Vinod and after analysing the Call Details Record some new active mobile numbers were also found. After 15 days of strenuous CDR analysis, it was found that after the commission of the crime, the accused had changed around 8 mobile sets and nearly 20 SIMs.
Simultaneously, manual information was also developed and it came to light that the alleged accused was in Suket Valley, Sunder Nagar, Himachal Pradesh who was trying to flee to Nepal. The dedicated team left behind the Diwali festival and rushed to Himachal Pradesh but the accused was found to have fled to Dehradun.
The team again rushed to Dehradun and found that from where he boarded a bus to Banbasa, Indo-Nepal border. The relentless team started the chase again and finally nabbed him in the morning on 02.11.2024 at Banbasa, Indo-Nepal border. The team has travelled nearly 1600 km continuously in 24 hrs to nab the accused.
During the detailed interrogation, it came to light that the domestic helper (who is also from Nepal) of the deceased gave information to him about huge cash and jewellery in the house of the Doctor, so he along with his accomplice Bhim Jora who is also from Nepal insisted other accused persons to commit robbery.
Before committing the crime, he made a record of the house and involved Bhim Jora's wife in the crime to avoid any suspicion. At the instance of the maid, they entered the house and during the robbery, they had committed the murder of the house owner and fled away to Nepal after looting jewellery and cash.
He got Rs 40,000/- and 13 GM of gold from the looted booty. His wife and daughter are residing in Solan, Himachal Pradesh, after remaining many months in Nepal he returned to meet them. To hide himself, he constantly changed his location and went back to Nepal when he was arrested. He also disclosed that he was earlier arrested in 2018 & 2020 in Solan, Himachal Pradesh but didn’t turn up after bail, so he was declared a proclaimed offender in both cases.
According to the press release, the accused is a resident of Nepal. He first came to India in the year 2002 in search of livelihood and started working as a labourer in Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh. Later he started the work of illegal trade of Opium and was arrested twice in NDPS Act cases.
After that he started to commit theft by Drugging (Zehar Khurani) incidents along with his accomplice to fulfil his greed, later he socializes with Nepal-based maids to get wealth details of the house owner so that he can earn a big amount from robbery to settle his own business in Nepal. In this way, he came to connect with the maid and committed a crime. He used to change his name after every incident and presently using the name 'Gagan Oli' on a fake ID.
