Tamil Nadu doctor murders mother over property dispute, held

Mayiladuthurai: In a tragic incident, the CB-CID of the state police recently arrested a doctor on charges of murdering his mother three and a half years ago at her house near Mayiladuthurai in Tamil Nadu. 

In the investigation, the CB-CID found compelling evidence that the doctor had killed his mother as a result of family and property disagreements.

The incident took place on December 22, 2020, when a shocking murder case was reported to the police. The victim in this case was a 72-year-old retired assistant headmistress of a government school. She was reportedly a widow living alone at her house in Manalmedu.

The death of the woman came to light when her elder son, a doctor by profession who was practising at a hospital Poompuhar reported the incident to the police. It was alleged that he resided a few metres away from his family and discovered her mother dead when he went to her house to fetch the former's car. 

According to his statements earlier, he found his mother dead in a pool of blood after entering the house to check up on her and also discovered some pieces of her jewellery gone missing from her house.

Following this, he filed a complaint at the police station and a 45-year-old native of Manalmedu was arrested in connection with the case. Tragically, he died by suicide on December 29 soon after his apprehension, leading to allegations of police misconduct from his family.

As per a TNIE report, the case took a significant turn in 2023 when it was transferred to the CB-CID following legal action by the deceased younger son, Raja. At first, the involvement of a group behind the murder but after reevaluating the case, the CB-CID narrowed down the deceased elder son as the primary suspect. 

The CB-CID uncovered information indicating that he had a motive related to family and property disputes, leading them to suspect that he was responsible for his mother's murder. After gathering evidence and conducting a thorough investigation, they arrested Parirajan from his residence.
