Tamil Nadu Medical Council honours 12 doctors with Medical Excellence Awards 2022, details

Chennai: Altogether 12 meritorious doctors in Tamil Nadu recently received the State Medical Council's prestigious "Medical Council Awards-2022 for Medical Excellence".

Governor Thiru. R.N.Ravi, the chief guest, presented the awards to the doctors at a recently held function at Durbar Hall of Raj Bhavan, Chennai on July 23, 2022. The President of TNMC, Dr. K. Senthil and Vice President Dr. M.K. Ponnuraj were also present at the occasion.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that the State Medical Council of Tamil Nadu had invited nominations for "Medical Council Awards-2022 for Medical Excellence".

"The meritorious doctors among the nominations will be selected for the "Medical Council Awards-2022 for Medical Excellence" as per the criteria/ scoring followed by the Selection Committee of the Tamil Nadu Medical Council. The Awards will be given in an "Awards Function" to be held in Chennai by the Tamil Nadu Medical Council and the date will be announced later," TNMC had mentioned in this announcement.

The Medical Council had announced the awards in three categories- Medical Teacher Awards, Specialist's Awards, and Service Award. 

After considering all the nominations the Council shortlisted 12 doctors for the prestigious award. Those 12 doctors who were graced with the honour are as follows:

Dr.S.Revwathy:

Madurai based Dr. Revwathy has been bestowed with the Medical Council Awards 2022 for Medical Excellence in the Medical Teachers category.

Dr. R Jayanthi: 

Dr. Jayanthi hails from Srinivasapuram, Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai and she has an experience of 30 years in the field of Internal Medicine. After completing her MBBS from University of Madras back in 1986, she pursued MD- General Medicine from Tamil Nadu based Dr. M.G.R. Medical University in 1996.

Currently working at Thiruvanmiyur based RJ Medical Center, Dr. Jayanthi got the TNMC Award for Medical Excellence in first category i.e. the category of Medical Teachers. She is also a member of Association of Physicians of India.

Dr. N Gopalakrishnan: 

A renowned Nephrologist, Dr. Gopalakrishnan was honoured by TNMC in the category of Medical Teachers. He pursued his MBBS and MD from madurai Medical College and later obtained DM (Nephrology) superspecialty degree from Madras Medical College back in 1996.

Dr. Gopalakrishnan heads Institute of Nephrology, Madras Medical College. Previously, he was conferred the title of Fellow by the Royal College of Physicians, London, in 2010.

He was responsible for setting up the Peritoneal and Haemodialysis services at Chengalpattu Medical College Hospital. At Madras Medical College, he started the Renal Clinic for the Institute of Obstetrics & Gynaecology as well as the Maintenance Haemodialysis Unit for the Department of Nephrology. Dr. Gopalakrishnan heads the 'Deceased Donor' renal transplantation programme at Madras Medical College.

Dr S Ramesh: 

Hailing from Chidambaram, Cuddalore, Dr. S Ramesh is a Paediatrician by profession. After completing his MBBS degree, he pursued Diploma in Child Health (D.C.H.) and later Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) in Paediatrics (Paed). Tamil Nadu Medical Council bestowed upon him the "Medical Council Awards-2022 for Medical Excellence" in the Medical Teachers Category.

Dr.Nihal Jacob Thomas:

Prof Nihal Thomas is Professor in Endocrinology and Head of Unit-1 at the department of Endocrinology at the Christian Medical College, Vellore. He also was the former Vice Principal for Research, former Deputy Medical Superintendent formerly Associate Director at CMC, Vellore. In fact, he was the cofounder of the endocrinology department, when it separated from the department of medicine in 1994.

TNMC bestowed upon him the "Medical Council Awards-2022 for Medical Excellence" in the Specialist Award Category.

Dr.T.Dhinakaran:

Madurai based Nephrologist Dr. Dhinakaran is employed at Madurai Kidney Centre & Transplantation Research Institute. After completing his MBBS from Government Stanley Hospital under the Madras University, he pursued M.D General Medicine from Madurai Medical College. He also pursued M.N.A.M.S.,(Gen. Medicine) from National Board of Examinations, and D.M in Nephrology from Madurai Medical College back in 1984.

The State Medical Council in Tamil Nadu conferred him the "Medical Council Awards- 2022 for Medical Excellence" in the Specialist Award Category.

Dr.S.Joye Varghese:

Chennai based Dr. Varghese is a renowned Gastroenterologist and a transplant Hepatologist in India. He has played vital role in setting up liver transplant program in both Government as well as Private institutions at Tamil Nadu & Kerala. He is the first person in India who initiated therapeutic plasma exchange in various liver conditions and successfully performed hepatitis B virus related liver transplantation using hyper immune plasma.

TNMC bestowed upon him the "Medical Council Awards- 2022 for Medical Excellence" in the Specialist Award Category.

Dr.Su.Thillai Vallal:

After completing his MBBS, Dr. Vallal pursued D.M. Cardiology from CMC Vellore back in 1993. He has also worked as a faculty at CMC Vellore. He has performed more than 15,000 Coronary Angiograms and performed more than 4000 Coronary Angioplasties (PTCA). He is working as a Senior Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at Venkateswara Hospital.

TNMC conferred him with "Medical Council Awards- 2022 for Medical Excellence" in the Specialist Award Category.

Dr.R.Muralidharan:

Dindigul based Dr. Muralidharan is an Orthopaedic Surgeon, who was conferred with TNMC's "Medical Council Awards- 2022 for Medical Excellence" in the Specialist Award Category.

Dr .G.Rameswari:

Trichy based Dr. Rameswari is a renowned obstetrician has been practicing in Tamil Nadu for the past 50 years. She is currently employed at the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department of Rana Hospital in the post of Chief Obstetrician. 

TNMC honoured her with the "Medical Council Awards- 2022 for Medical Excellence" in the Specialist Award Category.

Dr.M.Prabhakar:

After completing her MBBS from Annamalai  University, Dr. Prabhakar pursued M.S (Gen) from Ramaiah Medical College, Bangalore. He completed DNB in Genito Urinary Surgery at Vedanayagam Hospital, Coimbatore.

Currently, Dr. Prabhakar is working as the Chief Consultant Urologist, Transplant Surgeon and Managing Director of Kalyani Kidney Care Centre.

He got recently conferred with the "Medical Council Awards- 2022 for Medical Excellence" in the Specialist Award Category.

Dr. E. Theranirajan:

Dr. Theranirajan is the Dean of the Madras Medical College, Chennai and Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital. TNMC honoured him with the "Medical Council Awards- 2022 for Medical Excellence" in the Service Award category.
