Telangana Medical Council Busts 4 Quacks, Illegal Hospital

Hyderabad: In its ongoing battle to eliminate quackery in the state, the Telangana State Medical Council (TSMC) uncovered four unqualified medical practitioners (quacks), a doctor practising without registration and a private hospital operating without permission in Siddipet.  

The surprise inspection was conducted by the Telangana State Medical Council in Siddipet. A team led by TMC Vice-Chairman Dr B Srinivas, along with Dr Vishnu and Dr Vijaya, visited multiple medical centres in the area. 

One major violation was found at Arvind Sai Hospital, which was operating without any permission from the District Medical Officer. The team also noted that no doctors were present during the visit.

Further, the team found that a doctor was treating patients without being registered with the Telangana Medical Council at Pulse Neuro Superspecialty Hospital. 

As per a Telangana Today news report, the team also identified four unqualified individuals posing as medical practitioners. Among them, a quack identified as Prasad was running Prasad First Aid Centre, Murali was operating Bharagavi First Aid Centre, Nagraj was found running Satwik First Aid Centre, and Sudhakar Reddy was operating Rajeshwari First Aid Centre, Gandhi Nagar. 

TMC confirmed that legal action will be taken against them under various laws, including the NMC Act, the Telangana State Medical Practitioners Registration (TSMPR) Act, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

“Cases will be registered against these individuals under Sections 34 and 54 of the NMC Act, Section 22 of the TSMPR Act, and Sections 318 and 319 of the BNS,” said the Medical Council. 

As part of the drive, the Council also inspected 20 other hospitals to check whether they had valid permissions and if their doctors were properly registered. An awareness session on the Code of Medical Ethics was also held for the medical community.

Medical Dialogues had previously reported that the Telangana Medical Council (TMC) has uncovered multiple cases of unqualified individuals running unauthorised healthcare facilities in Devarakonda and Mall town of Nalgonda district. In a series of raids, the Council exposed the shocking extent of quackery being carried out under the guise of legitimate medical practice. During surprise inspections, the TMC team apprehended optometrist R Ramesh, who was illegally running a fully equipped hospital, Akshara Hospital, in Devarakonda. Despite being only qualified as an optometrist, Ramesh was reportedly conducting eye surgeries and administering powerful antibiotics to patients.
