Telangana Medical Council cracks down on Quacks running clinics in Nalgonda

Hyderabad: The Telangana Medical Council (TMC) has uncovered multiple cases of unqualified individuals running unauthorised healthcare facilities in Devarakonda and Mall town of Nalgonda district. In a series of raids, the Council exposed the shocking extent of quackery being carried out under the guise of legitimate medical practice.

Medical Dialogues had previously reported that the Telangana State Medical Council (TSMC) had taken legal action against 12 individuals for illegally practising medicine. Of these, eight practised in Hyderabad and its surrounding areas, while the remaining four were located in various districts.

Another individual, also named Ramesh, was found running Padmavathi Hospital while claiming to be an MBBS, MD in General Medicine.

Speaking to Telangana Today, the TMC said, “When questioned by the members of the medical council investigating team, Ramesh claimed to have completed his MBBS in Russia but failed to provide any degree certificates.”

The TMC's crackdown didn't stop there. Four other impostors were found running illegal allopathic clinics under the pretense of offering “first-aid” or “limited scope treatment.”

According to news reports, the other individuals caught include Rajeshwar Rao, who was reportedly operating the Rajeshwar Rao Clinic in Mall Town; Jahangir, who was practicing as a physiotherapist and running an allopathy clinic using a fake Bachelor in Physiotherapy (BPT) degree; Padmavathi, who was managing Srinivas Poly Clinic in the same town; and Santosh, who was found prescribing allopathic medicines under the name Maharshi Clinic, using the prescription pad of an MBBS doctor named Venkat Reddy.

Speaking to Telangana Today, Dr. Gundagani Srinivas, Vice Chairman of the Telangana Medical Council, said, “These individuals were found administering high doses of antibiotic injections, steroid injections, and tablets to patients regardless of their ailment. There is no law that defines or permits ‘limited scope allopathic treatment’ under the guise of a ‘First Aid Center’ or ‘primary treatment center’ without a proper license and qualification.”

Dr. Srinivas, along with Dr. Vishnu, who led the inspection teams, confirmed that cases will be filed against all the accused under Sections 34 and 54 of the NMC Act. If convicted, the offenders face up to one year of imprisonment and fines up to Rs 5 lakh.
