A faulty wire in the bathroom is reported to be the reason behind the electrocution that resulted in their death.

The couple who stayed at an apartment in the Khaderbagh area, have been identified as 26-year-old Syed Nisaruddin, a doctor working at Suryapet hospital, and 22-year-old Umme Mohimeen Saimah, a final year student pursuing MBBS at Deccan Medical college.

The incident came to the fore after Saima's father grew suspicious when they didn't pick up their phone. They eventually broke into the apartment to check on the couple. Salma's father, along with some other people entered the apartment after switching off the power supply, reports the India Today.

Saima's father said, "We suspected that something was wrong, so we turned off the power supply and entered the flat through a window. We saw the couple lying dead in the bathroom."

They eventually informed the local police who reached the spot and began their investigation. So far, the police suspects that Saima first received the electric shock, following which her husband intervened in an attempt to save her, which resulted in both of their deaths due to electric shock. Both reportedly died on the spot.

Speaking to Telangana Today, Langer Houz Inspector, K Srinivas said, "During enquiry we came to know that the couple got electrocuted in the bathroom. We suspect they came in contact with the geyser."

Sub-inspector S Shruthi stated, "Police were informed only at 11.30 pm on Thursday night. When cops went to the flat, the couple was found dead. It seems that the husband tried to save the woman but he also succumbed to the electric shock."

The police suspect that the incident might have taken place on Thursday evening, however, it remained unknown as no one had checked up on the couple. They had come back to the city from their visit to Suryapet on Wednesday.

The police, after reaching the spot, shifted the bodies to the OGH mortuary.
