Hyderabad: The prime accused in the Warangal Post graduate medico suicide case of Kakatiya Medical College (KMC) that created a sensation in Telangana has been granted a conditional bail by the special sessions court on Wednesday.

As the 60-day judicial remand became 58 days by Wednesday, the advocates of the accused presented their arguments before the court. After arguments, the court granted bail to the accused. However, the court imposed a condition to appear before the concerned inquiry officer every Friday between 12 noon and 2 pm until the charge sheet is filed or for 16 weeks.

The court granted bail on personal bond of Rs 10 thousand and two sureties. In this case, the court ordered that no threats be made against the witnesses or the family members of the deceased.

Granting him bail, the court said, “The accused, upon release on bail shall not threaten family members of the deceased or any other witnesses in the case. In case of any violation of conditions, prosecution is at liberty to seek cancellation of bail."

The accused was granted bail after his advocate presented his phycological issues that he was dealing with depression due to his prolonged stay at the jail. The advocate appealed to the court to grant him bail on the grounds that he became eligible for relief under Section 167 of CrPc as he completed 60 days in jail. Since the material part of investigation was almost complete, the court granted him bail on April 19, TNIE reports.

Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that a junior doctor pursuing PG in Anaesthesiology at Kakatiya Medical College (KMC), Warangal, allegedly attempted suicide by taking some injections, reportedly after being harassed by one of her seniors.

She was undergoing treatment at Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) Hyderabad and unfortunately passed away on 26th February 2023. Her family alleged that she attempted suicide because of harassment by a senior doctor.

Following this, the Warangal Police had arrested the accused on February 24, after booking him under provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and the Telangana Prohibition of Ragging Act. Later, the Telangana government transferred the Head of the department (HOD) of Anaesthesia on Thursday, March 2. He was transferred as a professor of anesthesia at the government medical college in Bhupalpally on administrative grounds with immediate effect.
