Telangana State Medical Council registers FIRs against 14 clinics run by quacks

The alleged practice has violated provisions of the National Medical Commission Act and the Telangana State Medical Practitioners Registration (TSMPR) Act.

The incident came to light after the council identified these clinics and filed a complaint at the police station. TGMC Registrar D. Lalayya Kumar and Chairman K. Mahesh Kumar filed the complaints.

Following their complaint, Nalgonda police registered FIRs against the clinics under BNS Sections 318 (Cheating) and 319 (Cheating by Personation), NMC Act Sections 34 (Prohibition of Unregistered Practice) and 54 (Cognisance of Offences) and TSMPR Act Section 22 (Penalty for Unauthorised Practice). 

TSMC Vice Chairman G. Srinivas told The Hindu, "This crackdown is a critical step in safeguarding public health and ensuring that only certified professionals are permitted to practice medicine. People’s lives were being endangered by those without any medical qualifications."

The growing number of unqualified individuals posing as doctors in Telangana has raised serious concerns about the rise of quackery and its threat to public health. 

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that a 62-year-old woman with only a Class 12 education allegedly posed as a doctor and treated numerous patients at an illegal clinic she was running from a rented house on Irur Road in Alathur taluk. Acting on a tip-off, the police arrested the fake doctor for allegedly running an unlicensed clinic and prescribing medicines without any medical training, putting the public's health at serious risk.
