Testimony of victim 'inconsistent' and 'unreliable': Delhi Court acquits dentist in 2018 rape case
Court order
New Delhi: Asserting that the victim's testimony was inconsistent and unreliable, a Delhi Court recently acquitted a dentist of a charge of raping a woman in April 2018. The court further declared that the prosecution had not succeeded in proving its case beyond a reasonable doubt.
Considering the uncertainties surrounding the reliability of the victim's statement, which was deemed 'inconsistent and self-contradictions' by the court, Additional sessions judge Snighdha Sarvaria said that due to the improvements and variations in every successive version of her statement, the woman's testimony became unfit to be accepted at face value.
“The self-contradictory statements make her an unreliable witness," observed the court.
